Gerty Is Finished

Well I am Happy with Gerty now, I can say she is finished.
this has been a heap of fun for Me doing this challenge. I used a new technique (new to Me) to grunge her up a bit. I feel a bit more confident in what I am doing. she smells beautiful because of the spices used in the grunging process.
take a look at Prims Patterns and Handmades for the challenge. you will see Denise's Bear that she has made up. if you check in after the 27th March you will see the finished bears from all over. Denise puts the pictures up for us to see how others have made up their bears.
a very big thank you to Denise for putting this challenge up for us to do.
It is a great experience for Me to get something made that I don't normally make.
Tropical Cyclone Ului is about to hit where Mum lives in Mackay...please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as they brace themselves for this rough time. Mackay is well known for flooding so with the rain that comes from a cyclone so will the floods...My sister Kelly's house goes under every time they flood severely.
updates are available if you follow the link.
well Happy Sewing everyone...keep an eye out for those you Love.

"Dirty Gertie" Even Dirtier

Well Gertie is a bit dirtier now...the pictures don't really do it Justice though.
Her colour is definitely darker but you just can't see it too well.
I am happy with her though and I guess that's all that matters...i don't feel like she is finished yet. will have to wait and see what else develops.
have a great week.
Happy sewing
Amanda

"Dirty Gertie"

Well I have named my little bear..."Dirty Gertie"...and dressed her...but...be shocked people...I think she is too light...oh the horror I know.
so as I write "Gertie" is spinning around in the clothes dryer inside an old pillowcase...I told Wayne not to call the FBBI (Federal Bureau of Bear Investigation) and dob me in for Bear abuse.
I made up another mixture to grunge her up a bit more...this time I used less water and added some coffee & chicory essence to darken it a bit more.
So we will see how she turns out...I am determined to get her looking good. as you can see from the picture she is a little darker than the bunny I did but not too dark, so I have painted her again and will see in a few more minutes how dark she looks. I will post about it soon.
keep an eye out for the next picture of "Gertie" when she is finished.

...A Great Result...

well this afternoon I finally got a chance to "Grunge" the bear I am making up for the Teddy Challenge over at Prim Patterns 'N' handmades.

I found a grunging method in an old magazine I had. well it still looks a bit light in the pictures but once it dried it was darker...I think Khris would be proud of me.
I love learning new things all the time.

Here's the recipe and method...what do you think of this one?

Mix together a solution of of one tablespoon each of ground cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice, 3/4 cup of water and one teaspoon of Parisian essence.
let the mix settle for about 10 to 15 minutes until it reaches a sludge-like consistency. paint your bear or doll, allow it to dry. you can put it in the oven on 200 Celsius for about a minute. once dry rub off the granules and hey presto it is ready. you can paint it more than once for a darker effect. I only painted it once this time.

Happy Day

The 'Baseco Mahal Kita' Tote.

I came across
today and was drawn in by the Baseco Mahal Kita tote.

you can purchase the pattern for the very small sum of $4.00 usd. it will be emailed in PDF form to you. now what makes this tote any different to any another tote out there?

well the funds raised for this tote pattern are going to the Baseco people through Mark and Christine Pedder (missionaries).

"In our western culture we do not go without food, unless by choice. The people of Baseco have no choiceThey have no food. They are starving.Their children cry themselves to sleep with hunger".

when we have so much and they have so little...it seems a crime.

Can we together sell 1000 patterns.

Blog about it!

1000 patterns is:

10 new homes or medicine for 1000 children.

Or Emegency relief kits, or Emergency medical kits...

the list goes on.

Read here what happens over there.

So for the price of less than a cup of takeaway coffee you can help contribute to the health and life of a people group much less fortunate than ours...

just click on the link to Dawns blog and learn more about this worthy cause.

follow the link on the sidebar to purchase.

have fun making the tote...

Is there hope for me and my cloth obsession??

Teddy Bear Challenge with free pattern

Prim Patterns and Handmades is having a Teddy Bear challenge with a free pattern. I did the bunny challenge and it was so much fun.
I am not a professional sewer by any means but I found that the experience that I got by doing a challenge really helped me to learn a lot. Denise is a very lovely lady who is very encouraging and I would highly recommend you take a risk and have a go at this challenge...if only for the experience. "Your challenge is to give your bear some personality"
Photo's are due in by 29th March 2010...just make up your bear and take some photo's to send in to Denise.
Enjoy this little project...at the end of it you will have accomplished something and have a cute little bear to marvel at.
